Spirit Week is one exciting and memorable week for all grades throughout the school. Every day, students have the opportunity to wear certain clothes that align with a theme. Students and faculty let their creativity soar and outfits outshine the rest. This year, Spirit Week consists of Pajama Day, Tie-Dye Day, Jersey Day, Class T-Shirt Day, Blazer Day, and finally, ending the week off with a bang: Homecoming.
“Spirit week is so fun and memorable, especially during my senior year,” senior Aava Glickman said. “I loved picking out the fun outfits with my friends weeks before also.”
The value of spirit week in the school is left unsaid. From the freshmen’s first spirit week at North High to the seniors’ last, the memories are everlasting.
“My first spirit week at North High was very fun and exciting, but I think the themes are outdated, like tie-dye,” said freshman Sharon Shirazian.
Overall, students’ creativity shines through each and every day. On Wednesday, Jersey Day, students and faculty get to wear their favorite team jerseys, including basketball, hockey, soccer, and more. Some students decide to wear their school sports jerseys to support their team, holding pride in their commitment to athletics at the school.
Students got to represent their favorite teams by wearing their jerseys followed by an exciting activity that took place on the front lawn after school. Certain North High teachers—like Mr. Hartwig, Mr. Levine, and Dr. Holtzman—volunteered to be in a tank dunk where they sat above water as students threw baseballs trying to hit an aim.
Students were given the option to pay $5 for a ticket to be given an attempt to throw the ball at the target. Students were even allowed to buy tickets for $25 to automatically get the faculty member dunked. Once the target was hit, the teacher would fall from the seat, dropping into the dunk tank.
Not only was it exciting for students to feel the satisfaction of hitting the ball on target, but the rest of the students and other faculty members were filled with immense joy while watching such an event happen. As the teachers splashed into the water, students’ faces lit up with intense smiles. The thought of dunking teachers excited students whether that was because they were their favorite teacher or even their least favorite. Some students who attempted to dunk the faculty were Jacob Nasrolai, Willie Benjamin, Alexa Hizon, Leyla Kohnaim, Maya Avakook, and Ryan Kashanian.
“I really enjoyed watching the teachers get dunked into the dunk tank and I think it creates a very fun environment at the school,” said junior Julian Elihu.
Jersey Day and the dunk tank proved to be a hit this year at North High, leaving the faculty with no choice but to continue this memorable day next year during Spirit Week. Students look forward to Spirit Week every year. Every day is something new and exciting. Students get to represent their teams at pep rally, wear fun clothes, and have an amazing time after school.
