At North High, the significance of bringing students of all ages together is at the top of the priority list. Senior advisors get together to create a Halloween fair for the Great Neck community. Each advisory is assigned a booth in the big gym where different events are held for the kids. Some events consist of cupcake decorating, pumpkin decorating, candy toss, bean bag races, and even face paint. Bringing the elementary kids to the high allows the age gap of students to mesh together and spend time with one another. This event is something North High has been hosting for a while, and every year it gets better.
“I was at the halloween fair since I am a peer leader, and it was so amazing seeing all the little kids smiling and laughing,” senior Layla Pourmoradi said. “My booth did face painting, and it was such a success. And I was also able to spend time with my peerlings.”
With this event being held at North High, one question may arise. At what age are you supposed to stop dressing up? The truth is there is no answer but it can be controversial. The thrill of dressing up as a young child, finding a costume, and then going door to door and getting the best candy in the world is something we all remember. Getting older may bring doubt when dressing up. But the truth is, there is no age limit! Halloween is a fun time where people can express themselves through costumes and makeup—and don’t forget about trick or treating! The thrill and excitement of Halloween does not go away and it is a time to have fun with friends and family.
“I went pumpkin picking with my friends recently. It’s such a fun fall activity to do and the place we went to also had a flower field which was pretty,” senior Maya Salim said. “I would do it again with my friends in the future.”
Pumpkin picking and going to a pumpkin patch is a fun activity to do! With fields of pumpkins, you can pick out different sizes, shapes, and even colors of pumpkins that you can later carve! Grocery stores sell tool kits to carve pumpkins and even have different design ideas to inspire you. Using the pumpkins you can also make pumpkin pie recipes that create such a delicious dessert for the fall. Pumpkin patches also have fun activities to do like mazes and haunted houses, and they have delicious apple cider and apple cider donuts.
“I love spending time with my friends and family in the fall,” senior Elle Matalon said. “We haven’t gone pumpkin picking this year yet, but I would love to take my younger sister.”
Halloween is such a thrilling and exciting time of year when there are endless activities to do. The range from staying in and carving pumpkins or going out on an adventure attract all different people and are all fun activities to do.
