With the cold and snowy season ahead, seniors may feel stuck at home or in Great Neck. Why not use this weather as an advantage to go on a ski trip? Bonding with friends over hot cocoa, the fire pit, skiing and beautiful mountains can make a weekend away so memorable. Driving up to a skiing destination for a couple nights away in a lodge, whether you ski or not, can be such an amazing experience with friends. It can ultimately offer a feeling of escape from your daily life—whether you’re going on the slopes or staying in the lodge.
“My family never goes on ski trips but they always look like so much fun, and I mentioned this to my friends,” senior Aava Glickman said. “I really would love to go skiing with my friends in Vermont this winter.”
Something more sentimental is making a time capsule. Throughout the year, collect special memories such as receipts, photos, notes and other keepsakes and put them into a glass container. Store them in a sturdy, sealable container like a glass jar, tin box or even a decorated shoebox. It will be fun to decorate and collect things throughout the year and on top of that it’s a meaningful way to preserve things throughout the year. Once your time capsule is complete, decide when you’ll open it. Whether it’s on your graduation day or your high school reunion, opening it will allow you to relive those cherished memories and reflect on how much you’ve grown.
“I want to create a senior time capsule with all my most memorable moments,” senior Morgan Youssian said. “I want to open it in like 15 years and just keep it in a safe place for now.”
All the seniors at North High started off the first day of school bright and early at a senior sunrise earlier this September. On a similar note, it would be a great idea to organize a senior sunset near the end of school when the weather is nice. It would be a great and memorable event to end the year before prom, graduation and all the big events that keep the seniors busy. Bringing speakers, snacks and blankets is a beautiful way to end off the senior year.
“Senior sunrise was a great way to start the year and I think senior sunset would be a great way to end it,” senior Elle Matalon said. “I loved spending time with my peers doing the traditional senior sunrise and would love to make senior sunset a tradition as well with food, music and spending time with everyone.”
Senior year is such an important year to spend as much time with high school friends as possible before everyone leaves for college. Implementing these small aspects into your senior year can make it life-changing and more memorable.
