Ruben Amorim was born in Lisbon, Portugal, the hometown of the club he coached, Sporting Lisbon. Like many famed managers before him, namely Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti, Ruben Amorim played as a midfielder during his playing career. He mainly played in the Portuguese premier division, with famous teams such as Benfica. The budding coach is very young, considering the far more older and wiser tacticians present in the game. This is because he decided to cut his playing career short and become a manager, believing he would succeed far better in that game department.
Amorim’s career started at a club in Portugal known as Casa Pisa but quickly moved away from the club. He stayed in Portugal with SC Braga, where he managed their second team before becoming the first team manager. Soon enough, he found success when he was hired by Sporting CP in a desperate attempt to save the once-great Portuguese giants. Amorim brought success in his first season, bringing home the league title before bringing in a second last year.
Fast forward to the present day, Sporting Portugal, at the time of writing, are undefeated in the Portuguese league and UEFA Champions League. Led in part by star Swedish Forward Victor Gyokeres, who has scored 24 goals in all competitions. Sporting’s soccer style involves a three-center back trio at the back, with wingers running down the left and right-hand side to provide width in attack, while also helping in defense.
“Amorim’s style is bright; the quick counter attack ability is exciting,” senior Jonah Berkowitz said. The system, spearheaded by Amorim, enticed Manchester United to hire him as their new manager in lieu of other managerial choices.
Manchester United has played just one game under new manager Ruben Amorim, a 1-1 draw away against the bottom-of-the-table Ipswich Town. A 1-1 draw was all they could muster, with Marcus Rashford netting an early goal, assisted by Ivorian youngster Amad Diallo. An absolute curler from former Chelsea man Omari Hutchinson canceled out the goal. Overall, due to the lack of preparation from Amorim, the result could be better, but improvements can be made.
“He seems capable,” junior Max Mueller said, referring to Amorim.

Overall, Manchester United’s future looks bright. Ruben Amorim has worked with some of the younger Manchester United players, namely Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte and Portuguese captain Bruno Fernandes. It is likely that these players, who have thrived under Amorim in the past, can once again hit top form. Amorim is known to mold younger players into fully fledged superstars. Youngsters Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho also hope to succeed under the new manager. Manchester United is entering a new era, hoping to bring glory to the historic club.
