From motion diagrams to movie nights, Mr. Cimilluca brings heart, humor, and a whole lot of wisdom to the classroom. Whether he’s breaking down Newton’s laws or building up the next generation of thinkers, Cim is a teacher who truly gets it.
If you’re searching for a teacher who’s not only funny, relatable, and genuinely cool, look no further than Mr. Cimilluca. Known by many as Mr. Cim, or simply “Cim”, he’s the perfect person to not only learn physics from, but also have those deeper, more meaningful conversations with.

Cim grew up in Franklin Square, where he attended Carey High School and later studied at SUNY Cortland in upstate New York. He first encountered physics in his junior year of high school, taking it again as an AP course his senior year. Though teaching wasn’t originally part of his plan, it quickly became the right path.
“I started to realize I would enjoy the topic as a whole since it combined my two favorite subjects, science and math,” Cim said. “I first started out studying engineering, which was my original plan, but at the end of school I decided to switch my career path to become a teacher.”
As a teacher, Cim brings a clear philosophy to the classroom. Rather than having students memorize procedures, he encourages them to think about the principles behind what they’re solving.
“When teaching students physics, I feel it is best to try and help them understand why something would happen rather than trying to memorize the steps,” Cim said. “With physics, the smallest change can impact the way you go about the problem. I try to have them think about what is going to happen as a result and work that way.”

This year, Cim has also taken on the newly introduced Physics 9 Honors course — an intermediary between regular Physics 9 and the AP-level content that used to define the old honors class.
“Teaching Physics Honors 9 this year has been a really great experience,” Cim said. “A lot of the time you still get the wow factor where kids are amazed at why certain things happen that they’ve seen their whole lives without knowing the science behind it.”
Outside of the classroom, Cim’s interests stretch far beyond circuits and motion diagrams. He enjoys reading, playing golf, watching movies and TV shows, and is an avid fan of both the Mets and Knicks. At school, he also advises the AI Club, helping students explore new technology and have fun while doing it.
“Mr. Cim consistently makes time for us, brings fresh ideas to every meeting, and ensures our club is both productive and enjoyable,” said AI Club President Julian Elihu. “The club really wouldn’t have been as successful without him.”
Cim is the kind of teacher students genuinely enjoy being around — not just for his lessons, but for who he is. He’s always open to a casual conversation and brings a sense of humor that relieves the stress of school while adding some fun.
Whether in class or in the hallway, Cim creates space for connection beyond the typical student-teacher dynamic. With a steady mix of structure, support, and positivity, he’s someone students trust, rely on, and look forward to seeing each day.
