(Taylor’s Version)
Millions of Taylor Swift fans across the globe are bubbling with excitement as Taylor has just re-recorded her album “Red“, along with releasing a ten-minute version of her song “All Too Well” and many other songs that were previously unreleased.
In 2019, Swift parted ways with her previous record label, Big Machine Records, which is owned by Scooter Braun. In doing so, Swift lost the rights to all six albums she recorded while being there, as Braun sold the rights of the albums to an investment firm. Swift has now regained the rights to these albums by re-recording them and will be able to make a profit from the re-recorded versions of her songs. To ensure full ownership of her songs, Swift also signed with a new record label: Universal Republic Records.
The first re-recorded album, “Fearless,” was released on April 9. Shortly after, Swift released the re-recordings of her 2012 album “Red” on November 12. All songs re-recorded by Swift will read “(Taylor’s Version)” next to them.
With each album Swift re-records, she also includes vault songs, which previously did not make the original version of the album. “Red” includes ten vault songs, one being the ten-minute version of her song “All Too Well” — which has been met with excitement by many fans.
“I think that releasing the ten-minute version of ‘All Too Well’ was a great way to gain attraction for the re-recording of Red and get people excited,” said sophomore Cayla Mirjani.
The ten-minute version of “All Too Well” includes a short film starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien, and was both written and directed by Swift herself. The film has gained a lot of attraction and already has over 51 million views in only three weeks. Swift later went on to perform the song on Saturday Night Live while the short film played behind her.
The song is rumored to be about Swift’s relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal, while the music video portrays the evolution of their relationship together (Sink is said to play Swift and O’Brien is said to play Gyllenhaal). Throughout the video, their relationship matures and Swift ultimately assumes the role of the older version of Sink’s character. Fans were thrilled to learn the intel of Swift’s past relationships.
“I really liked [it] and I felt that both Sadie and Dylan did an amazing job. I really liked how we saw the changes in their relationship as the film progressed,” said sophomore Lauren Itzhak. “I also really enjoyed seeing the change in maturity going from Sadie to Taylor,” she added.
The song has already broken a record as it became the longest song to receive the title of a Number 1 billboard track. For now, fans eagerly await the announcement of the next album Swift will be re-recording.
