In the long winding corridors of the Port Authority Bus Terminal, Akayed Ullah, a 27-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant, detonated a pipe bomb at 7:20 a.m. during an early Monday morning commute.

The pipe bomb was created with a pipe, nine-volt battery, matches, and Christmas tree lights. Ullah also used online tutorials to create his makeshift bomb. However, the bomb did not go off as expected, leaving him as the only one injured with wounds and burns. He was then sent for medical attention at Bellevue Hospital. Later, further investigation found that Ullah was a licensed cab driver and an electrician.

There is no evidence of planned actions between Ullah and ISIS. However, Ullah expressed his anger at United States bombings in ISIS-controlled territories. His individual actions in the name of ISIS fortunately did not injure early morning commuters. However, future investigation is still being conducted for more to further understands his actions and the situation.
