On Wednesday, Oct. 29, the big gym at North High was buzzing with excitement and joy as the Halloween Fair began. The event offered by North High lasted from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Students, staff, children and parents gathered in the big gym, which was an enjoyable carnival-style festival of games, candy and costumes for Halloween. The event was packed and offered a vibrant and fun introduction to Halloween that brought the community together.

Walking into the Halloween Fair, the gym was filled with enjoyable games everywhere. At each station, there were senior peer leaders and sophomores who supervised and ran their games. Children in costumes constantly ran up and down the gym to play different games in order to win candy and boast their costumes.
“My favorite thing in the Halloween fair was seeing everyone in a costume and showing their Halloween spirit,” sophomore Ethan Kohan said. “I enjoyed all the games, especially the basketball game. I got to eat so much delicious candy!”

“I found the Halloween Fair successful for a couple of reasons,” business teacher Mr. Marchese said. “First, it is always fun to see the children dressed up in their costumes. Second, it amazes me how something simple as a small Kit Kat bar can put such a huge smile on a child’s face. Third, it is heartwarming to see the sophomores interacting with the younger elementary school students.”
His words show that the Halloween Fair at North High was inclusive and the games had something for everyone to enjoy and be entertained. Furthermore, everyone could tell that the energy in the gym was incredible and positive. It wasn’t just about the games and the candy, it was about bringing the community together. Some sophomores and seniors who have never spoken were able to work together to set up their stations.
“It is an opportunity for us teachers to see the sophomores in a different way than we see them everyday,” business teacher Mr. Marchese said.

“I saw many kids dressed up in their favorite costumes during the Halloween Fair,” sophomore Yoni Yousefzadeh said. “Most people were wearing funny costumes that made everyone smile!”
A noticeable trend at the Halloween fair was the popularity of funny and lighthearted costumes. While some children chose scary costumes, most opted for humorous outfits that brought laughter to the gym. This shift toward funny costumes demonstrated the clear playful spirit of the fair, making the atmosphere even more entertaining and engaging for everyone involved.
As the event wound down, families left the gym with bags of candy, smiles on their faces and began talking about their plans for Halloween. The organizers of the event cleaned up the empty candy bowls, creative games and wrappers on the floor. The crowd had a lot of fun at the Halloween Fair and it planted a sense of excitement for the holiday ahead.
In the week leading up to Halloween, the energetic Halloween Fair had created a big and lasting impact. It reminded everyone that Halloween was right around the corner. This sparked conversations regarding costume ideas, Halloween parties and trick-or-treating plans. The excitement from the Halloween Fair carried through the days that followed. The fair marked the beginning of the holiday and added to the anticipation of Halloween.
